After a trip to Turin soon followed by another to London with no time for anything else besides work, I took the weekend in Lisbon to visit the exhibition “The Adventure of the Earth” that is at the Museum of Natural History since November. In this exhibition we follow the evolution of the earth over 4600 million years through a timeline. Among other materials there are six huge globes representing the different periods of Earth’s history.
I am used to see representations of geological history with a logarithmic timeline where the earliest times are more compressed than more recent events. The surprise here is the use of a linear time scale in which every meter of exhibition represents 50 million years: the timeline continues in a room with a length of 100 meters … not to be missed.
